Mother of everyday

from Machete by Johnathan Martin

about

When I wrote this intro riff, I thought it was going to be an instrumental, but a song was coming together quickly after I wrote the first verse. Basically its an open interpretation for the listener. But if you had to ask me, its me talking to the universe, or God or a higher power, trying to find my place in it all. ' Mother of everyday' is probably my favourite song on this record.
Another cool fact is, I was using a friends Gibson, 1958, Les Paul Gold Top. Playing loud through an old Vox Head and 2x12"cab, nothing else. No pedals or apps. The song comes to life when I play the riff before the chorus, and I love the tone on my solo at the end. A lot of !st or 2nd takes here on this record. improv was the key!

lyrics

They say love is a 'cold mine',
and it's easy to say,
I hope that your heart is not betrayed..

They pray and they pray
to the mother of everyday,
"please lead us home from this tomb".

Chorus
---------
Show me a road, and i'll cut it down,
feed me slow, and I'll close the door
Its not what you know,
its what you do with your time,
because time leads us home.

Please let me stay,
its my home you've become,
unspoken failure, turned away
