This was a moments notice, and we had to be in the studio with a new song, for a STRAB FEST commemorative cd. All I had was this west African riff based song, I'd written the night before, and I was kind of nervous to show it to anyone.Never mind record it for a proper release, and our reputation was on the line, as it was. I had just been fired from Jack Hammer, for the second time and I was really pissed off, hurt and relieved to be out of the madness for a moment. 'Conrad Jamneck' is a long time friend, (one of the best sound engineers in the world)brother in the music life, and when he called I didn't ask why, or how much? I just 'rocked up', six pack of black label, guitars and our spirit. It was just myself and my younger brother 'Aidan Martin' that morning, with Conrad producing, and the talented 'Dewald Pretorius' as engineer. What was finally dubbed ' the hand of God', a powerful drum effect that Conrad added, gave me the goosebumps. then I knew it was on!! The song worked, and it was now a collaborative effort!!! So this is where you will be able to find the special anniversary edition of 'Machete'.
lyrics
When the sun is shining,
you know its thing on you!
Oh when its raining, the clouds they're reflecting on me.
In light of these thoughts,
I think I'll wish myself away,
Machete in hand,
I cut through the vines that bind.
Want to leave,
this holy land behind me,
Wanna leave this only child,
in the way she found me.
In clouds of dust and smoke I,
try to breathe,
Never wanted this conscience to betray me.
Hear me now...
Hear me now...
Hear me now...
Now the rainbow is faded,
torn, in disrepair
Alive but inside,
the profet is reeling in time.
On the surface its clean,
and soft like a Jesus believed,
at the facist parade ,
I'll see you all disarmed and enslaved...

Born in 1977 in South Africa, to a musical family, Johnathan Martin started to picture himself as performing musician from
the tender age of 10 tears old. Classical guitar, then piano, and finally getting his first Strat copy at 13 years old. Taking music as a subject at school put the cello in his hands, and learnt to really improv when he joined the full time touring band Jack Hammer in '97....more
Its got that 'stab you in the heart' effect when you listen to it. It might even take a few listens to get that feeling, but believe me when it hits, you'll know my meaning and thank me!! enjoy! Johnathan Martin
