This one is about substance abuse. I've struggled for years to battle this crazy and very cunning enemy. So I wrote something with a hard rock, grunge vibe to get my feeling across and maybe some relates. I received a letter from a man in prison, and he said my music kept him going through the toughest times of his life. This made me realise how powerful the music and lyrics I write can be, because up to then I knew how my favourite bands save me from destruction, but I was humbled beyond comprehension that my music was doing it too. Great feeling to know you're appreciated. Always try to help others in need and you'll be rewarded with love and help too. Higher Place is the song with the coolest riff, I love the song and its a true story of trying to get out of the trouble and depression you eventually get from substance abuse. i'am no preacher believe me, but I'll tell all those who are contemplating using anything to alter their state of mind, to stay away, and rather get into sports to produce more good feelings! Endorphins!
lyrics
To bleed again with all my fears and the wars in my head,
With no quarter inside I pray the Lord to wash it away,
Who is this beast without a face who keeps me from the Devine,
the ground is sweet so pure and far
I've got to make what I find.
I'll pick you up I'll break you down,
take you to a higher place
I'll feel you high,
I'll let you stay, then break me,
to be replaced
I wake to find a seasons come, and gone without your embrace,
to kill a shadow with breath so foul, has drained the blood from your face
I'll pick you up I'll break you down,
take you to a higher place
I'll feel you high,
I'll let you stay, then break me,
to be replaced

Born in 1977 in South Africa, to a musical family, Johnathan Martin started to picture himself as performing musician from
the tender age of 10 tears old. Classical guitar, then piano, and finally getting his first Strat copy at 13 years old. Taking music as a subject at school put the cello in his hands, and learnt to really improv when he joined the full time touring band Jack Hammer in '97....more
Its got that 'stab you in the heart' effect when you listen to it. It might even take a few listens to get that feeling, but believe me when it hits, you'll know my meaning and thank me!! enjoy! Johnathan Martin
